Cadwell Park - 28 February 2010
I had been really looking forward to this test day as an opportunity to get to grips with the car in race spec prior to Brands hatch but was unfortunately unwell on saturday and only came out as it was not possible to transfer or have the day refunded. It was therefore not as productive as I would have liked as we didn't arrive untill just before the lunch break. I did however cover around 75miles in the car, so not a complete waste and my 'pit crew' seemed to enjoy himself taking photos of pretty much everything!
Initially I went out in the car on the old A539's to get a feel for the conditions and racing lines. During the lunch break we swapped to the brand new A048's with tyre pressures set as recommended by George at George Polley Motorsport where i got the tyres. On the first outing back on track car was suffering from a vibration under breaking for the right handers which we thought could be down to an un balanced wheel having just changed them. It wasn't! We found that the offside stut mount had become loose, so one to watch for the race weekends there! Once that was fixed I headed back out on track to gradually build up speed and confidence.
Unfortunately I had the camera running while we were working out the vibration issue so there is not much track time on the video before it ran out and the lap times (around 2min 13s) are some what off what i would expect race pace to be even in the wet! It was a good first outing though and pleasing to drive the car back into the garage at the end of the day in one piece. Just a few minor jobs to complete before Brands so getting excited now!!!
